In recent years, Amsterdam’s culture has exponentially intertwined with the culture of specialty coffee, charming people from all areas.
From West to East, these spots serve as a personal experience for coffee connoisseurs, as well as an occasion to yap with friends and take cute pictures.
For this reason, we decided to gather our favorite spots in Amsterdam and give you the most mouthwatering coffee and pastries guide ever.
Located next to one of Amsterdam’s most famous fashion schools AMFI, YUSU is definitely the best place to people watch. With an unmatched stylish community, this coffee spot offers special drinks and unique pastries, such as earl grey mascarpone cake and chocolate and strawberry glazed pain au chocolat. Fun fact: YUSU’s founder Kick and two of his colleagues founded a DJ Team named Yusu Selectors and have ever played at one of The Odder Side’s events!
4850 offers possibly the best buns in town! Be prepared though, the choice between cinnamon and cardamom is quite hard to make so bring a friend with you and share to taste both! Situated in a very residential part of Amsterdam Oost, 4850 is a great spot to also work remotely or to get coffee from before a stroll at the Oosterpark.
A paradise for mid-century modern and funky interior lovers. From breakfast to dinner, Turbo does it all. We recommend visiting Turbo for a fresh pastry and oat cappuccino, but their selection of orange wines and shared plates is worth trying as well!
If there is a place where you would literally want to try the whole breakfast menu, that would be Kafé Kontrast. Born by blending cuisines from Scandinavia and Indonesia, this spot offers curated sweet and savory brunch dishes as well as a traditional Scandi breakfast and matcha. Located in the heart of the city, Kafé Kontrast is the perfect middle-ground spot to meet with your friends.
When somebody said the phrase “Eat your greens,” they were probably thinking about matcha. LERA is one of the spots you should keep on your radar if you’re a matcha lover and offers a selection of cookies, chocolates, cakes and special drinks (all matcha based!!).
The best period to visit Carmen would be summer, to fully enjoy their garden and get some vitamin D. However, that doesn’t mean that their interiors are stunning as well! Aside from serving delicious coffee, Carmen is also known for its food menu made of porridge, eggs and great sourdough toasts.
Our personal favorite when it comes to sourdough bread and cheese buns. Louf is a one-of-a-kind, with a vast selection of both sweet and savory pastries, made in front of your eyes in their open lab. Through their Instagram account, they often announce seasonal goods and specials, which make your coffee experience even better.
Aside from offering bread made of locally grown and organic ingredients, Ulmus is also known for its sugary sweet treats like cruffins, almond croissants and bomboloni. Oh, and the coffee is pretty amazing too.
Despite being open all week long, Toki is a perfect Saturday spot. After having strolled around the Noordermarkt and stocked up on products for the week ahead, you should treat yourself to a coffee at Toki. The place is vibrant and filled with interesting books and magazines, allowing you to recharge and get also some inspiration for the week ahead.
